Jack Burrell still gets the phone calls from concerned Fairhope residents about whether a largely abandoned schoolhouse in the middle of the city’s trendy downtown will be demolished someday.

The response remains the same as it has been for years – the city is looking for funding opportunities to renovate, not demolish, an old brick school first built during the Roaring 20s and which housed the early elementary education of generations of city residents.
